Artone vinyl factory 1963

April 27, 2021

As you may know my father Casper Slinger and his brother Willem founded the ARTONE vinyl factory in the late 50’s in Haarlem, The Netherlands. The factory used to press mainly jazz records offering the American jazz labels a distribution platform in Europe, a very innovative and successful idea as most Dutch record companies had little interest in jazz music. The factory was very successful and over time, the business was acquired by giants like CBS GROUP and SONY MUSIC. Twenty years ago it was sold to Ton Vermeulen of Record Industry who set it on the tracks to become the biggest vinyl record producer in Europe producing records under the well reputed label Music on Vinyl (MOV)!

Below is a picture of the factory where you see the vinyl records being hand-pressed! It was taken around 1963, the year of my birth.
